New political action committee launches ads in two TN State House districts spotlighting legislative action to kill gun reform in wake of Covenant shooting

Nashville, Tennessee — Tennessee MomPAC, a new political action committee formed to fight back against anti-family politicians and policy makers, announced its creation today with the first in a series of ads targeting two members of the Tennessee State House of Representatives for their willful rejection of key gun reform legislation in the wake of the 2023 Covenant School shooting.

"The Tennessee Legislature has awakened a sleeping giant, and I can promise you that moms are asleep no more. We love our children. We love our families. And we love our great State of Tennessee. But too often, the politicians have forgotten how what they do — and don’t do — affects us all. Or worse yet — they simply don’t care. That’s why we’re organizing a statewide, grassroots movement to make sure voters understand the stakes in this critical election year and who’s really on our side,” said Heather Thomas, founder and Executive Director of Tennessee MomPAC.

The first wave of ads begin running on Mother’s Day this Sunday, May 12, in the districts of three legislators targeted for their record on gun reform — Rep. Robert Stevens (HD 13 — Smyrna) and Rep. Jeff Burkhart (HD 75 — Clarksville).

“Politicians like Reps. Stevens and Burkhart are indicative of the biggest problem at our State House — they’re not listening. They’re not listening to parents — not even those who tragically lost children at Covenant — when it comes to protecting our schools from guns. They’re not listening to women who deserve the right to make choices about their own health care. They’re not listening when it comes to protecting our LGBTQ children or putting aside these nonsensical book bans. We’re here to change that,” said Thomas.

Thomas said Tennessee MomPAC will work to organize moms and their allies in all 95 counties, educate women and families about what’s at stake in the election, and make sure they get to the polls to vote their values this November.

"As Moms, we have a unique perspective on the issues that impact our families and communities. This is not about Republican or Democrat. It’s not about right or left. It’s about right and wrong. Together, we will hold our elected officials accountable and make Tennessee a better and safer place to raise our families,” said Thomas.
